Cringeworthy Divorce Attorney Commercials

I’ve watched these commercials a few times now and I don’t know whether I should laugh or cry. At first, I thought they were Saturday Night Live spoof commercials, but they’re real. By the way, the two gentlemen in these ads may be examples of what is referred to as negative advocates in high-conflict divorce cases.

Now, what I’d like to see are divorce attorney ads that promise to resolve a case as quickly as possible, keep fees to a minimum and demonstrate an expertise and clear strategy for neutralizing high-conflict cases and negative advocates. From my perspective, these attorney commercials are just as bad as the personal injury “we’ll get money for you!” adverts. Then again, isn’t that what they’re really saying?

I don’t think the one on the bottom is that bad. I have seen men in situations like that – where their home has been emptied out and they are left with nothing. Heck, they usually feel lucky she left them with the house instead of throwing him out of it and keeping it herself (while demanding he maintains the mortgage, of course). The other two are quite tacky.

I run a free stuff website and was approached by a company to post a free guide for women on how to survive custody disputes. I think it was for South Carolina. I refused to mention the offer on my site. In divorce situations, it’s not usually the women that need advice and guidance on how to survive a custody case. Divorce attorneys are definitely predatory IMHO.

I think there are a good percentage of divorce attorneys who try to fight the good fight and do the right think. However, there are a lot who are just lining their pockets and destroying lives in the process. It’s my fervent hope that someday somebody does to them what they do to others for a living.

That first ad is awful. The guy hurls insults right and left and it’s obviously he’s reading a teleprompter. The second one wasn’t working when I clicked on it. I agree with SunshineFlGirl that the third one isn’t that bad.

Ugh… second one works now. Yuck! My husband got served divorce papers over Easter at his father’s house, while he and the ex and kids were visiting. At the time, it was devastating to him, but we later agreed that getting those papers on Easter was actually kind of oddly symbolic. Those divorce papers actually helped him resurrect his life!

Not as bad as the first two. Agreed.

Ugh… did you see the other creepy ad for Mike Gallagher? He has three young “hotties” who claim to be legal assistants dressed in cocktail dresses pitching his services. That’s just weird and very tacky!

Lawyer commercials always amuse me: “Have you been injured in an accident? …. Do you want to be?!”

There are very few divorce/trial/criminal/forensic-psych lawyers for which I have admiration and respect, but one is Demosthenes Lorandos:

He worked on the high-profile Tonya Craft case last year:

What do you call 1000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?

    – A good start.

Id agree the 3rd is at least slightly tasteful. The second one by far is the worst. “My husband served me with divorce papers on Christmas eve, ruining MY Christmas”

Waa f-ing waa. Its all about YOU isnt it? Not ‘the family’s Christmas??’ not ‘the kids Christmas??’ Probably some frigid harpy that drove her husband to the verge of insanity and he finally snapped at Thanksgiving and got the papers drawn up asap.

Seeing stuff like this just reminds me of how fortunate I was that my BPD ex didn’t contest our divorce.

The only lawyers that make out to really care for you are the ones that are on TV shows. These dreamlike characters act like they care about their “clients.” In the real world they just want their thousands of dollars retainer.
